Associate Professor Emma Cole has been awarded the T.B.L. Webster Fellowship at the Institute of Classical Studies, School of Advanced Study, University of London for the 2026-27 UK academic year.
The Webster Fellowship is awarded annually to a scholar from a university outside the UK whose research interests are in ancient theatre and performance and its reception or in classical art and archaeology. Emma will spend six weeks based in Senate House, London from March 2027. During this time she will complete research for her ARC DECRA-funded project on
Gender, Translation, and ancient Greek Tragedy. In particular, she will be aiming to complete her translations of Euripides’ final trilogy (Bacchae, Iphigenia at Aulis, Alcmaeon in Corinth) while at the ICS, where she will benefit from the resources at the Combined Library of the Institute of Classical Studies and Hellenic and Roman Studies. During her fellowship she also will host an event in London on translating Greek tragedy for the stage, which will include a staged reading of her translation ahead of its publication in 2028.
