The new publication is the chapter ‘Dance, Immersivity, and Translation in Punchdrunk’s The Burnt City’ by Dr Emma Cole which is part of the edited collection Translation in the Performing Arts: Embodiment, Materiality, and Inclusion (ed. by Enza De Francisci and Cristina Marinetti). The chapter considers Punchdrunk’s work through a translation studies lens to illuminate the company’s approach to deconstructing narrative across multiple media.
This new book features really diverse investigations into the intersections between translation and the performing arts. Emma's own chapter looks at Punchdrunk's The Burnt City and explores the intersemiotic and intermedial form of translation that underpinned this production, where Greek tragedy was transformed into dance.
