Visiting Fellowships and Visiting Academics

Visiting Academics

For overseas academics applying to undertake a visiting academic position at the School of Communication and Arts, please complete this Expression of Interest and submit the completed form with your Curriculum Vitae (including a list of your publications) to research.commarts@uq.edu.au.

Your EOI will then be forwarded to the proposed UQ supervisor to determine alignment of research interests and capacity.

The School of Communication and Arts is not able to contribute to any funding for visiting academics. Visiting academics are expected to support themselves financially for the duration of their visit. To be eligible, international applicants must hold a PhD and have a minimum of one years’ post-doctoral experience.

PLEASE NOTE: The School of Communication and Arts is unable to support any visits for periods longer than 3 months in duration. The Department of Home Affairs currently lists processing times of approximately 14 months for the Temporary Activity (subclass 408 – Research Activities) visa, which is the required visa for research collaboration at UQ. As a result, any prospective visitor wishing to undertake a visit of 3 months or less must plan their intended dates well in advance. For example, a visitor with secured funding who applies in March 2026 and has provided all the necessary supporting documentation would need to schedule a visit commencing no earlier than June 2027, to allow for visa processing.

Visiting Research Students

Students from overseas institutions who want to come to Australia on a temporary basis to undertake training to either enhance their skills in their current occupation, area of tertiary study or field of expertise or to observe and participate in research can become Visiting Research Students.

For the duration of your visit, you will need to be supervised by a UQ academic staff member. To find an academic staff member please search in accordance to the relevant area of interest. The School of Communication and Arts is not able to contribute to any funding for visiting research students. Watch a Fellowship Lecture

In this 2023 Lloyd Davis public lecture, Island in a Pocket: Shakespeare's History of the World led by Professor Simon Palfrey discover a new vision of Shakespeare’s history of the world. It is an epic journey from prehistoric beginnings to a conflict-torn imminent present. An empire’s fall may weigh no more than a dropped handkerchief: and a dropped handkerchief no less.
