To converge with its current NERD_FUNK show, a "kaleidoscopic exploration of the far-reaching influence of social media on our visual and digital culture", MU Hybrid Art House in Enidhoven, The Netherlands, organised a late-night (i.e. very early in the morning in Australia!) context event titled "Creative Practices in The New Virtuality". The event, designed to tie in with an exhibition visit, consisted of a screening of Jenna Ng's award-winning The New Virtuality video essay, followed by live talks between Ng, media-tech-fashion artist Damara Inglês and Ali Eslami, one half of the artist duo who created NERD_FUNK. We asked: how does screen and world collide? Where does the feed end and the ‘real’ begin? What do we do with fears of slippage, of being overwhelmed, of uncontrollabilities that seem to be accelerating? Where and how do we break the thrall of the digital? To find/re-find our spirituality?
