Theatre of possibilities: exploring hope in applied theatre contexts

This seminar will explore recent ARC-funde d research projects that used a range of performance and digital arts strategies with specific groups, including newly arrived refugees, individuals with dementia, prisoners and returning service personnel.

Professor Michael Balfour is Chair and Professor of Applied Theatre at Griffith University. Michael’s research explores theatre and multi-arts approaches in a range of social and community contexts. He has a particular interest in how theatre responds to war and conflict, and in the broad area of arts and social health. He is the series editor of the Methuen Applied Theatre series, and his most recent publications include Applied Theatre: Resettlement, Drama, Refugees and Resilience (2015) and a Special Edition of the Arts and Health Journal: Arts, Social Health and the Military (2015).
