The Investigative Mindset: Journalism, Truth and Public Interest

About The Investigative Mindset: Journalism, Truth and Public Interest
Investigative journalism begins with a question someone would rather not answer.
On Wednesday, 22 July, the Walkley Foundation and the University of Queensland will bring together three of Australia’s leading journalists for a candid conversation about what happens next: how a lead becomes an investigation, how difficult stories are pursued, and why reporting in the public interest still matters.
The panel features Sarah Elks, Queensland Editor at The Australian; Edmund Tadros, Professional Services Editor at The Australian Financial Review and 2023 Gold Walkley winner; and Ben Smee, Queensland Correspondent at Guardian Australia. The discussion will be moderated by Dr Lujain Shafeeq from UQ’s School of Communication and Arts.
Together, they will discuss the judgement, persistence and curiosity behind major investigations, as well as the career paths, challenges and lessons that have shaped their work.
The evening will include audience questions, followed by networking with journalists, academics, students and industry professionals over light refreshments and canapes.
