Researchers in the Centre for Communication and Social Change are delivering communication strategy co-design workshops as part of the GEF Coral Reef Rescue: Resilient Coral Reefs, Resilient Communities project.
A/Prof Elske van de Fliert and Dr Skye Doherty recently travelled to Suva to deliver workshop two of three to support national teams from Indonesia, Fiji, Solomon Islands, Tanzania, and Madagascar to help operationalise national hubs for coral reef conservation.
The three-day workshops focus on designing communication for social change, including story design, participatory futures, and a communication and engagement strategy.
The Solomon Islands Government said outcomes of the workshop were expected to provide the National Hubs in Fiji and the Solomon Islands “with clear, actionable strategies to engage stakeholders effectively and communicate the critical importance of coral reef conservation within the broader context of environmental protection and climate resilience.”
The project is part of the US$7m initiative funded by the Global Environment Facility to build capacity and solutions that ensure the long-term survival of climate refuge coral reef ecosystems and the communities that depend on them.
The team worked with Yayasan Reef Check Indonesia and the Indonesian National Hub team in February and in April collaborated with the Wildlife Conservation Society country office teams from Fiji and Solomon Islands and their government partners. This month they will work with teams from Tanzania and Madagascar.
