Guarding against the spread of disinformation about science

6 June 2025

On May 27 Dr Anne Kruger had the unique opportunity to help shape a new Australian Coalition for Trust in Science & Health. Led by Professor Brett Sutton, Director CSIRO Health & Biosecurity, senior leaders in Australian research, government and industry travelled to Queensland's State Library to drive their commitment to raise science literacy, foster public trust, and guard against mis- and disinformation. It was the next step after roundtables in 2024 where Dr Kruger asked leaders to not only "talk the talk, but to walk the walk" with action after discussion.

Earlier in the day Dr Kruger attended an invite-only symposium on how to better understand and support public perceptions of emerging science and technology. The gathering heard from a line-up of high-profile experts across a range of fields, including Doug Hilton – Chief Executive, CSIRO and Anna-Maria Arabia – Chief Executive, Australian Academy of Science.
