Pelumi Oginni headshotOluwapelumi (Pelumi) Oginni, a PhD candidate at the School of Communication and Arts, has been selected to participate in the UQ San Francisco Startup AdVenture Programme, one of Australia’s most competitive and impactful global mobility initiatives. The programme immerses students in San Francisco’s startup ecosystem, offering first-hand experience working within innovative companies and non-profit organisations over a period of four weeks.

During the programme, Pelumi will work alongside innovators in San Francisco, gaining insight into how organisations are built and scaled. Beyond the day-to-day experience in a startup environment, the programme offers participants the chance to grow their networks, build resilience, collaborate across cultures, and develop global connections with innovators and thought leaders. The programme also provides opportunities to undertake real-world projects while strengthening digital work skills. With all costs supported by a UQ grant, this international experience is designed to accelerate professional growth and open new pathways for impact across industries and communities.

For Pelumi, the programme represents an opportunity to extend her research horizons, stretch beyond her research capacity to strengthen her leadership skills and explore how creativity and innovation can drive meaningful change both within academia and in broader society.
