Dr Jagadish Thaker’s (JT) new research paper has been selected for a Top Faculty Paper award by the Environmental Communication Division of the International Communication Association (ICA). This is his third sole-authored top paper award in the last four years, and his second since joining UQ. He says he regrets missing a hat-trick.
Motivated to bridge media effects with audience-centred research, his paper, titled "When Does the News Matter? Media Attention, News Interest, and Climate Change Concern Across 27 Countries," tests the contextual nature of media effects. Combining two independent datasets on media attention to climate change and public opinion surveys from 27 countries, he examines the cross-level interaction between individual-level news interest and country-level media attention on public concern about climate change.
