The two-day symposium, held on 24-25 October at UI's campus, brought together academics and industry leaders for roundtable discussions on Strategic Communication, Journalism, and Digital Media and Society. The UQ delegation comprised of Professor Ng, Dr Caroline Wilson-Barnao, Dr Richard Murray, Professor Nic Carah and Senior Manager International Services Majella Ferguson.
"From my very first day as Head of School, I was struck by the enduring commitment and genuine value that the School, Faculty, and University of Queensland places on this important partnership," said Professor Ng in her opening remarks. "This collaboration is not just longstanding; it is deeply woven into our community and our academic culture".

The partnership has grown remarkably since its inception, expanding from just three pioneering students in the first cohort to welcoming over 50 UI students to UQ in 2025. Professor Ng praised the quality of the partnership, noting that UI students studying under the joint program are hardworking, diligent, exceptionally bright, and extremely well-prepared.
The symposium featured contributions from leading academics and industry professionals from both countries, addressing contemporary challenges in communication, media, and journalism. Discussions brought together representatives from Indonesian government agencies, media organizations, and universities alongside Australian researchers.
The UQ delegation expressed enthusiasm about continuing to strengthen the partnership in the years ahead, with Humanities and Social Sciences Faculty Executive Dean Professor Zwicker joining the celebrations later in the week to acknowledge this important milestone in international education collaboration.
